Delicious, unique and rare fruit – right on your doorstep!

Brogdale Farm is home to the country’s most unique orchards

Did you know that here in Faversham, we have the country’s most unique and amazing fruit orchards?   Brogdale Collections at Brogdale Farm is home to the National Fruit Collections and has over 4000 varieties of fruit trees from apples, pears, quinces and plums to cherries and more. The Collections’ orchards are a living history & heritage of fruit.

What’s really amazing, is that you can buy and enjoy these very rare fruits which would be very hard to buy anywhere else in the country.

What a fabulous opportunity to enjoy fruits with weird names, unusual appearances and wonderful flavours – for example, who knew there was an apple that tasted like a pineapple?!

Buy local & cut out the air miles

In most cases, Brogdale’s fruit travels around a mile or so from tree to shop. Picked by volunteers a couple of days previously, you can’t get much more local than that.

Usual stockists include Tiddly Pomme, Macknades, The Goods Shed in Canterbury and Sondes of Selling.

In today’s age, the idea of seasonal fruits has become dated. In big chains and supermarkets, you may be able to find exotic fruits all year round, or at the click of a button you can get them delivered. Sadly, these exotic or out-of-season fruits would have travelled miles and miles. They may even have been picked early and pumped full of preservatives, which would compromise the flavour and nutritional value.

Make the switch today!

Making the switch to buying local produce, will do you and the environment a world of good. Brogdale Collections’ fruit does not contain any additives, flavour enhancements, or preservatives. Back to basics, it is simply fresh fruit.

Gleaners and voluntary pickers from around the south east make sure the Collection’s beautiful fruits don’t go to waste. Whilst lots of the crop goes to stockists, there is always a large amount left over, which is picked and donated to food banks and those that need them. It is a great team effort and Brogdale Collections is enormously grateful for their volunteers.

Try for yourself at the Heritage Orchard Days

Coming up in September and October, Brogdale Collections will be holding Heritage Orchard Days. Taking place over two weekends, visitors will be able to tour the National Fruit Collection, try some traditional juice pressing, sample homemade ciders, PYO heritage fruit and much more. There are over a hundred different varities available on the day to choose from.

This event is a great opportunity to spend time outside with the family while enjoying some of Kent’s freshest fruits. Just by buying your tickets, you will be helping to raise essential funds for Brogdale Collection’s, which is a charity.

The Heritage Orchard Days will take place on the 16th, 17th & 30th of September, and the 1st, 14th and 15th of October.
